Consultations

Our first priority is to listen and understand your needs and desires with regard to your oral health and well being. A customized plan is developed and we will then educate you about the various treatment options that will help us individualize treatment and ensure the most effective dental care for you. We use advanced imaging and computerized treatment planning techniques to make you a partner in your care.

Diagnosis and Treatment

A thorough diagnosis and treatment plan will ensure success. We use digital x-rays, visual examination, digital cameras, models, comprehensive periodontal exams, oral cancer screenings, and esthetic evaluations to develop the proper diagnosis and treatment plans. Our industry-leading, fully integrated Dentrix Dental Software clearly explains various treatment options and plans. All treatment rooms have large flat screen displays for the patients to view the digital x-rays, intra-oral photos and digital plans.  Our doctors strive to educate you and make you an active participant in the process. We call this “co-diagnosis”. Our digital x-rays deliver significantly less radiation to patients than conventional x-rays and are part of our environmentally friendly facility. The office uses less chemicals, less paper and is always evaluating and implementing new ways to help the environment.

Hygiene and Cleanings

Dental health begins with healthy gums and underlying bone structure. We customize treatment to ensure your specific periodontal (gums and bone) needs are met. Our highly trained hygienists provide the best treatment while making sure you are comfortable.  Our reviews consistently reflect how much our patients love and appreciate the hygienists.

Fillings, Inlays, and Outlays

The latest dental materials and techniques allow for beautiful, long-lasting fillings. Northern Westchester Dental Care uses composite resin and porcelain to restore teeth to their natural color and strength.  These restorations allow for the most conservative, strongest and esthetic results.

Crowns and Bridges

A crown, or a “cap”, is a custom made covering for a tooth.  There are many reasons why a tooth may need a crown. The most common reasons are large areas of decay, trauma like a fracture, or to correct some type of bite or esthetic concern.  Also, after a tooth has a root canal completed, it will most likely need a crown. There are different types of crowns. A stainless steel crown is sometimes used on children if a baby tooth needs it.  A porcelain fused to metal (or PFM) crown, once the standard type of crown for adult teeth, is rarely fabricated because it is not as strong or esthetic as newer types of porcelain crowns. These crowns can show a black line visible near the gum tissue.  This dark areas is caused by the metal underneath the porcelain. Gold was commonly utilized in the past but seldom today due to its cost and esthetics.

While these types of restorations are still available today, newer types of porcelain or ceramic crowns are much more desirable.  At Northern Westchester Dental Care, we used the latest, strongest and most esthetic material on the market to match the patient’s needs.  These including lithium disilicate or eMax crowns and Zirconia crowns.

A typically takes one or two visits to complete.  At the first visit, the doctors will be sure that you are extremely comfortable.  There are different types of local anesthetics used depending on the individual and their needs.  The tooth is shaped, or prepared, to a very specific standard in order for the final crown to have the best fit.  Northern Westchester Dental Care is an elite dental practice with Cerec digital scanning and milling technology. There are few practices in Westchester County with the capability to digitally scan and fabricate porcelain crowns in a single visit.  If the procedure is completed in one visit, there is no need for a temporary crown or to return for the cementing of the crown.

A Bridge Restoration Is Similar to a Crown.

The only difference is that it involves multiple teeth. A standard bridge would replace one or more missing teeth.  The concept is the same as the crown except the final product has multiple crowns made as one unit that “bridges” the space.  There may be a tooth, then a space and then another tooth. The bridge attaches to the teeth on either side of the space. This procedure can also be completed in one visit with the Cerec technology.

A Crown And A Bridge Require Maintenance.

A crown needs to be cleaned with a toothbrush and dental floss just like a natural tooth. The crown itself will not decay, but since there is still tooth structure underneath the crown, proper hygiene is still very important. Be sure to brush effectively especially where the crown and tooth meet.

A Bridge Requires The Same Type Of Maintenance As The Crown.

However, there is some additional maintenance. Because there are multiple teeth connected together, it is not possible to floss in between the teeth that are attached. The front and back of the bridge may be flossed as normal, but “underneath” the bridge needs special care. Look for “SuperFloss” or a “floss threader” in the pharmacy as directed by the doctors or hygienists. These allow for cleaning food and plaque under the bridge to keep your tissue healthy.
